
ADULT SPEECH THERAPY SERVICES include:
Cognitive communication therapy - “The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) defines cognitive communication disorders as difficulty with any aspect of communication that is affected by disruption of cognition. Some examples of cognitive processes include: attention, memory, organization, problem solving/reasoning, and executive functions. Problems in these areas can affect verbal and nonverbal communication. For instance, speaking, listening, reading, writing, and pragmatic (social interaction) skills may be affected negatively. Problems with cognitive-communication can affect activities of daily living, and academic and work performance”.
Aphasia or language therapy - “Aphasia is a disorder resulting from damage or injury to the language area in the brain. It leads to impairment of language, speech, comprehension, and the inability to read and write. It results from an injury to the brain due to stroke, head trauma, tumors, or infections”.
Speech and Articulation therapy - “Dysarthria” refers to a group of motor speech disorders characterized by weakness, slowness, or poor coordination of the speech muscles. “Apraxia” is a motor speech disorder characterized by difficulties planning correct muscle movements for speech.
Voice disorders and treatment - Voice disorder is characterized by the abnormal production and/or absences of vocal quality, pitch, loudness, resonance, and/or duration,
Dysphagia Assessment and treatment - The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) defines dysphagia as a “swallowing disorder which may occur as a result of various medical conditions. Dysphagia is defined as problems involving the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, or gastroesophageal junction compromising safety with swallow function.”
